Bituminous patching mixtures are combinations of bituminous binders and aggregates that have special characteristics needed for filling holes in pavements. The different types of patching mixtures can be placed in one of three groups: hot-mixed, hot-laid; hot-mixed, cold-laid; and cold-mixed, cold-laid.

Summary. Bituminous Mixtures and Pavements contains accepted papers from the 6th International Conference ‘Bituminous Mixtures and Pavements’ (6th ICONFBMP, Thessaloniki, Greece, June ). The 6th ICONFBMP is organized every four years by the Highway Engineering Laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in conjunction with the Built Environment Research.

This paper presents an interlaboratory test campaign organized by the RILEM PEB Technical Committee. In the campaign, 11 different test methods, comprising uniaxial tension/compression, 2- 3- and 4-point bending and indirecttension tests, were utilized in order to investigate fatigue characteristics of a dense graded asphalt concrete mixture.

Materials that are bound together with bitumen are called bituminous materials. The use of bituminous materials were initially limited to road construction. Now the applications have spread over the area of roof construction, for industrial purposes, carpet tiles, paints and as a special coating for waterproofing.

History of Bituminous Materials Before the era of bitumen. The combined thickness of the sub-base and capping layer varies with the strength of the subgrade. The functions of all the pavement layers are covered in detail in chapters 2 and 3.
